January Instagram challenge

I started doing the FMS Instagram Challenge on the first day of 2017. I used to be religious about keeping up, keeping relevant, keeping brand aware and just trying to keep it together at all really.
I beat myself up if I missed a day – bear in mind that my daughters were 5 and just 3 years old when I started the project – and I was relentless. I fussed over everything.
I kept up for a while but you can’t enjoy something if you torture yourself over it, can you?
Anyway, this year I thought I’d give it another go. I started on the 3rd of January (you can have a look here) and, yes, I did play catch up – but not because I felt compelled. This time it was for fun.
Then, on the 4th of January we were told that the kids were coming home for school again – so we decided to do a family FMS challenge too. We set up a page – The Family Blakemore – and just played around.
On the 16th of February Child 1’s photo – ‘Something New‘ won. 4 years after I first entered my 9 year old daughter won. I’m very proud and excited for her… And also a little bit jealous!
Anyway, here are the pictures from January 2017. My style and content has changed a lot since then but it’s fun to look back and see how life has changed sometimes, isn’t it?

Sophie's Voice

New Yearstarted for me with another Instagram challenge – which I managed to complete on time and with a little imagination, I hope you’ll agree.

On to February now – I’ve got a doozie lined up for the 14th…

Enjoy!

Day 1 of the January Instagram challenge – ‘my fave colour’

Midnight blue.

Day 2 of the January Instagram challenge – ‘delicious’

Salt and pepper tofu.

Day 3 of the Instagram challenge – ‘circle’

Day 4 of the January Instagram challenge – ‘animal’

This year I am dreaming of owning an Airedale terrier.

Day 5 of the Instagram challenge – ‘a fave thing’

Broccoli and red pepper quiche from @roughhandmade on Penny Lane. It’s just a hop, skip and a jump from my home and my 3 year old daughter is eating…

Blogtober 2020 – the prompts…

This year Mandi Morrison at Big Family Organised Chaos is, once again, organising a Blogtober challenge. Corralling bloggers is not an easy job but she's bravely taken it on - although, if anyone can do it, it's got to be a woman who can deal with 7 children daily. I'll be trying to keep up … Continue reading Blogtober 2020 – the prompts…

The Sophie’s Voice declaration – or don’t let the GDPR get you down…

As boring as GDPR probably seems to most people, it's important to bloggers who run a newsletter or who regularly communicate with their followers by email or other forms of messaging. I don't. In all honesty, I've never wanted to bother you, dear readers. I get so much junk mail that I appreciate how quickly … Continue reading The Sophie’s Voice declaration – or don’t let the GDPR get you down…

Follow Friday – who I follow and why…

I live and work social media and the digital world and that can mean that I need to edit my personal use. There's a lot to look at and nobody can keep an eye on it all. I'm a bit super but, despite what my kids think, I'm not Wonder Woman. This Friday I offer … Continue reading Follow Friday – who I follow and why…

Tuesday review…

Today's review takes us off piste. I have a backlog of products to review and I'm busy updating the Sophie's Voice business plan at the moment. I've been talking about working towards blog profitability for a while but I needed a little assistance and inspiration. Well, last month I got it. I can't thank my … Continue reading Tuesday review…

The sad truth about blogging…

Lots of things about blogging are wonderful - the invites, the freebies, the people you meet, for example. The image of the typical blogger is a cliché nowadays. Apparently we're all blonde, thin, young and live in lofts with bare or bright white walls that are full of furniture from a Scandinavian modern design classic … Continue reading The sad truth about blogging…

Flashback…

If anyone thinks I'm not a social media natural, I simply refer them to this post - written during the labour of child 1. I even managed to write this comment... "I can confirm that 'we' are in labour. For that, please read: I'm just lying around while my tiny, so far unborn, offspring tries … Continue reading Flashback…

That screen shouldn’t be a veil…

Katie Hopkins is being sued for libel by Jack Monroe - the writer of the Cooking On A Bootstrap blog. Hopkins took down her original tweet after, apparently, mistaking Monroe for another woman - I guess socialists all look the same, right? - but that didn't stop her digging deeper. And her moronic Twitter followers took the … Continue reading That screen shouldn’t be a veil…

Throwback Thursday: back to the very beginning…

This post comes from the March 18th, 2015. I was shedding the mantle of It Took Two and becoming the Sophie you kindly listen to. I didn't want to call the blog 'Sophie's Voice' at first. I was too shy and unsure of myself. Too many things had happened that persuaded me that nobody cared … Continue reading Throwback Thursday: back to the very beginning…

Wordless Wednesday – how I feel about being photographed…
