That was the week that was, well, the worst…

I haven't been very active on the Sophie's Voice social media platforms over the past couple of weeks. That's due to a delightful little drama chez Sophie's Voice Towers. I always say I won't talk about my kids - and then I end up doing so anyway. However today I'm going to start truthfully and … Continue reading That was the week that was, well, the worst…

An up and down sort of month or so…

Going up at home: Life at Merebank Towers is getting better in some ways. After a false fire alarm last Friday there was a lot of bonding while wearing pyjamas and warm coats. We discovered that a lot of people have illegal pets. The firefighters were, to a man and woman, all extremely attractive and … Continue reading An up and down sort of month or so…

Tuesday review…

Today's review takes us off piste. I have a backlog of products to review and I'm busy updating the Sophie's Voice business plan at the moment. I've been talking about working towards blog profitability for a while but I needed a little assistance and inspiration. Well, last month I got it. I can't thank my … Continue reading Tuesday review…

Help! Sometimes I’m the type of mum I hate…

Skimming my Facebook On This Day posts this morning, I spotted this classic from last year - "To the little shit who tore my daughter's Easter bonnet apart... In 20 years time she will come for you. In the silence of the darkest, coldest night. This is your warning. I hope you spend the rest … Continue reading Help! Sometimes I’m the type of mum I hate…

The sad truth about blogging…

Lots of things about blogging are wonderful - the invites, the freebies, the people you meet, for example. The image of the typical blogger is a cliché nowadays. Apparently we're all blonde, thin, young and live in lofts with bare or bright white walls that are full of furniture from a Scandinavian modern design classic … Continue reading The sad truth about blogging…

All about you…day 1 of Blogtober 2017

Well, all about me - and, thank goodness. After all, I never talk about myself, do I? I decided to answer a selection of random questions I've been asked in the 8 years I've been doing this. I feel like the questions may surprise you more than the answers. Do you make your bed every … Continue reading All about you…day 1 of Blogtober 2017

Sophie’s Voice Love Yourself Week: Day 1 – Let’s be brave together

It’s Throwback Thursday and tomorrow sees the start of Self Care September.

What seems like a million years ago I went from writing It Took Two to editing Sophie’s Voice.

I launched my new website with a project that was far too ambitious for my time and abilities but I did, at least, launch. As a good friend told me at the time, “it doesn’t have to be perfect – it has to be done”. She had a big influence on me – like many other readers.

I can’t thank you enough. To a large extent, interaction with my readers (who I now think of as my friends) is a form of self care for me. As you can see from the cover photo, back then, I was happiest when hidden.

I hope you think I’m here for you as much as I appreciate you being here for me.

Thank you – each and every one.

With my love and respect,

Sophie

Sophie's Voice

Dear Readers,

Welcome to what I hope will be a success. There are no guarantees and, when I announced this grand event, I didn’t realise that it was going to be such a massive challenge. You see, I’m not usually required to maintain consistent levels of output (and you do indulge me very kindly in that) but, as I’m going to keep reiterating this week, how are we all going to love ourselves if we stick in the same rut?

I’m also intent on making this a personal journey for me. I write better when I have a connection to the subject matter and, believe it or not, just like everyone else I struggle with self-doubt, low self-esteem, Imposter Syndrome and a whole gamut of other little gremlins – and I mean the ‘invest in canned goods’ type of gremlins.

In short, I need to learn to love myself a…

Dear summer, you can piss off now – you’ve been lukewarm at best…

This week began with the aftermath of Charlotteville - Trump's tacit approval of neo-Nazis and ensuing polarised chaos in every form of media. Most of us try to do our best in life. Most of us cock it up sometimes. Most of us learn from our mistakes. Most of us grow as people. Most of … Continue reading Dear summer, you can piss off now – you’ve been lukewarm at best…

Flashback…

If anyone thinks I'm not a social media natural, I simply refer them to this post - written during the labour of child 1. I even managed to write this comment... "I can confirm that 'we' are in labour. For that, please read: I'm just lying around while my tiny, so far unborn, offspring tries … Continue reading Flashback…

Let me tell you a story – no, let me give you a warning…

Yesterday I wrote a Facebook post where I said "It's Yom HaShoah / יום השואה and it's monumentally sad to me this year. It feels futile to fight at the moment.".  I've spent today with my eldest daughter - spoiling her on the last day of her school holiday. It was wonderful - we went to my business … Continue reading Let me tell you a story – no, let me give you a warning…
