The secret of my success

The title of this post is tongue in cheek but Sophie’s Voice is celebrating at the moment.

As some of you may know, I made it to number 7 on the Brand dot Blog top 100 lifestyle blogs for 2016 last week.

I filled in my details so that I could be considered for PR reviews about 6 weeks ago. I then promptly forgot about it. Like everyone else, I have a lot of plates spinning at any one time. Admin is something that I detest and my planner is a mess…

Despite that, I got the happy news on Friday. Via twitter – of course. It’s the virtual equivalent of a telegram, it seems.

I thought you might like to see what I wrote about the blog back then – because it celebrates my readers more than this accolade can celebrate me.

What is your blog about?
A little bit of everything that interests
intelligent, modern women – lifestyle, sex, relationships, feminism, fashion, beauty and family.

Why do your readers love you?
I’m very honest and I’m not judgemental. I value talent more than experience and I like to share the blog with them.
I’m truly grateful for their feedback and support.

When did you start your blog and why?
I started Sophie’s Voice as It Took Two 21 months ago. I nearly went crazy after my first daughter was born
and I decided to go back to writing after I had my second daughter in
December of 2013.
The blog started as a place for mums to play – to forget about the kids
for a while and talk about nail polish colour and Prosecco. Then things
took off and I started to advocate for body positive projects amongst
other things. I work with other writers now and we cover a massive range
of subjects.

What has blogging meant for you?
It has given me my sanity and self worth
back. It’s helped me to meet amazing people. It gets me out of the house
and it’s been educational to say the least.

What is your greatest success to date?
A viral post last January which meant a lot to me because it advocated on behalf of The Third Trimester Project. It was on my Facebook page actually and Facebook tried to take it down because it contained a link to a petition to get them and Instagram to stop unnecessary censorship of images of female bodies.
I argued for the post and it was reinstated.

Where do you see your blog in the next 5 years? 10 years?
I want the blog to have more subject matter and be a place where people can start to write while they get blogging.

What do you wish you could do for your blog?
I wish I could pay writers.

Do you work directly with any brands? Why or why not?
Yes but I’m very careful. I choose products that I really like, offer objective reviews and make my relationship with any companies transparent. My blog lives and breathes on a reputation for integrity.

What advice would you give new bloggers?
Write- and enjoy it.

What platform do you blog from?
A website with support from a Facebook page.

What is your favorite social media platform and why?
It’s a difficult
question because they all have their merits. Each showcases a different
side of the brand as well.
For me, I’m most sentimental about Facebook because I started there really – but twitter is fun!

Well, there you have it. I’m still amazed to find my name on the list – which contains so many amazingly talented people. The other blogs make me feel like a total amateur. They’re everything – glossy and interesting, cosmopolitan and comforting. Just the most lovely places to rest in cyber terms. I advise you to take a look and explore some other writers. They’re all fabulous in their own way. Obviously, don’t leave me! I’m always gong to need your help. After all, you’re my inspiration.

You can have a look at the list here. Have fun! On Friday I’m going to the Alternative Fashion Festival event in Manchester with my new Features Editor, Kate Eden. We’re planning on having a really good time. After this year, I am inclined to think that we deserve it!

  1. Loved it as always, I’m really proud of you and I only make it up the M6 twice a year to tell you that face to face. Thank the Lord for Facebook because I’d be lost without you 🙂
