Day 5 of the Blogtober Challenge – share an old photo of yourself

In comparison with some of the other assignments that I’ve tackled for Blogtober, this one seemed pretty simple.
This photo was taken more than 20 years ago for my passport.

It was taken just before I went to live in France. I can’t tell you how much my life changed during that time.
I learned to function as an adult – opening a bank account without a signatory, renting a flat, earning a monthly salary, organising utilities. Everything, in short, that a grownup should be able to do.
In all honesty, though, I was still a child…but that time was the making of me.
I miss the freedom I had then but I’m glad I’m not the single minded young woman who never asked for help anymore.
I like being married to my best friend and most ardent supporter. I sometimes think that I was braver back then, but I wasn’t – I was just bluffing all the time.

  2. Gorgeous passport photo. I like how you reflected back on that time. I too travelled overseas & loved all it taught me. I will never regret it. My passport pic wasn’t good enough to share tho! ha ha

    1. To be honest, I hate that picture. Mr Sophie’s Voice always says it’s a bit scary! It was one of the best times of my life. Travel really broadens the mind and horizons.

  3. Yes, you are most definitely hot! I have really been enjoying all your articles! Sounds like you and Mr Sophie’s Voice have a great relationship! I also am a advocate of women’s rights! Keep up the good work!

    1. I think – when people work together – they can achieve anything. It seems that women are often better at collaboration, though. In my marriage we definitely play different roles. Thanks for the support. S x

  5. I know I took wild risks in my youth that I wouldn’t now. But I don’t regret them. Was I braver? More foolish for sure, but that is how you are at 20.

  6. Yes I love this picture Sophie! I can really relate to you in this picture, I think I’m definitely in that same phase of life and I too have just taken my first steps into adulthood. There’s still so much for me to learn but I think we both have that same fire and zest behind our eyes. Learning so much from your blog through the Blogtober challenge! x

    1. I think that I’m a bit too impartial when I think about life sometimes. This challenge makes me remember how I feel – it’s lovely to discover you too. Life still seems like a lesson to be learned, doesn’t it? S x
